Self-assessment Tool

This Competency Framework has been adapted from GreenComp - The European Competency Framework.

It is designed to assist you reflect on your own knowledge, skills and attitudes to sustainability but to also assist you on your sustainability journey. It is broken into four key sections as outlined in the diagram below. Within each section are three competencies for sustainability - Twelve in Total .

This tool has a two fold purpose

For educators- it details the competencies that are required in sustainability programme development
For practitioners, it is tool to self reflect on your values, knowledge and competencies in Sustainability.

No stars = Zero Competency | 1 -2 stars Little competency | 3-4 Average competency | 5 stars = Competent

Embodying Sustainability Values

I am able to critically evaluate and challenge my own ethos relating to sustainability values.
I can reflect on whether my personal views and actions cause any harm or contribute positively to sustainability.
I believe that equity for current and future generations are related to protecting nature.
I am committed to respecting the interests of future generations.
I respect and appreciate all cultures and their indigenous traditions.
I am committed to decreasing material consumption.
I am aware of how to assess my own impact on nature.
I care about protecting nature.

Embracing Complexity in Sustainability

I believe that every human action has environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts.
From my point of view, sustainability is a holistic concept that includes environmental, social, cultural and economic impacts.
I am concerned about the impacts of personal actions on the planet.
I understand that our understanding of sustainability is always evolving.
I am able to identify “green-washing” messages versus genuine sustainability messaging.
I am able to analyse ideas and actions to determine if they are in line with sustainability values.
I think it is necessary to look at sustainability problems from many different perspectives.
I know how to collaborate with empathy with others on sustainability challenges.

Acting for Sustainability

I am able to identify local/regional social, political and economic stakeholders with responsibilities for sustainability.
I am committed to becoming an agent of change to achieve sustainability.
